Life is filled with transitions, whether it’s ending a relationship, starting a new diet, or finding your true career path. By leveraging the insights offered by BaZi, we can navigate these changes more smoothly and effectively. Here are six essential questions to guide you through these life shifts.
1. Breaking Up: How Can You Minimize the Damage?
Breaking up is never easy, but what if you could minimize the damage and turn things in your favor? Whether it’s an external relationship like a business partnership, or a personal one like a breakup or divorce, choosing the right day is key. For external breakups, go for Yang days, and for personal matters, Yin days work best. Next, avoid any bad days (Breakers) in your personal horoscope to minimize setbacks. Look for a day governed by the Remove Star for a smooth transition. And finally, if possible, select a day when your personal Heavenly or Noble Stars align.
You can find the right day alone using your personal horoscope on BaZi Advisor. With a Silver subscription, you’ll get all the best date selections for the entire next month, while a Golden subscription gives you access to a whole year’s worth of dates on the Planning Events page. It’s worth it to ensure you get the most benefit and minimize the collateral damage when the stars are on your side.
Remember this wisdom from Laozi: A farmer once lost his horse, and the villagers called it bad luck. The farmer replied, "Who knows if it's good or bad?" Days later, the horse returned with wild horses. "Good luck!" said the villagers. The farmer said the same. But when his son broke his leg taming a horse, again, he said, "Who knows?" Later, when the army came to conscript men, his son was spared because of his injury. Life, like breakups, can seem unpredictable. What feels like a loss today may bring a blessing tomorrow.
2. How Does the Day You Start Your Diet Impact Its Success?
Did you know the day you start your diet can determine how effective it will be? Every day is ruled by a specific energy known as the Day Officer. There are 12 of them, and each brings unique qualities we can use to our advantage. For starting a diet, look for days led by the Remove or Success officers. Next, find days that clash with your Day Pillar in your birth chart. The Day Pillar represents your character, and clashes often signify physical loss—perfect if you're aiming for weight loss. These are called Personal Breakers in your horoscope.
Finally, since a successful diet requires willpower, persistence, and discipline, it’s ideal to choose a day when the Heavenly Stem god is either Seven Killing or Direct Officer—both of which boost these qualities. Finding a day that meets all these conditions is rare, but even partially fulfilling them can make a difference.
You can use BaZi Advisor to find the right day through your personal horoscope. Remember this ancient Chinese parable: A man wanted to cut down a tree. His friend advised him to wait for the right season when the wood would be easier to split and the work would go faster. But the man, eager to finish it, ignored the advice and worked hard, struggling to finish. Later, he saw his friend easily cutting down his tree in half the time during the proper season. The lesson? Timing is everything—even for a diet.
3. Who Can You Turn to for Help?
Who in your circle can you ask for help when you need it most? Across all cultures, the belief in divine assistance during tough times is common. We all hope for guidance, but did you know that help often comes from people already in your life? These individuals might be old friends or someone you meet at just the right moment. But here’s the catch: help doesn’t come unless you ask for it.
So, how do you know who to turn to? In Chinese metaphysics, these helpful individuals are known as Noble Men—people like bosses or mentors, who quietly offer support when you need it. Each of us has two Noble Men tied to zodiac animals in our Destiny Chart. By identifying those with these signs in their chart, you can better understand who can lend a hand and how.
And it doesn’t stop there! You also have Academic Mentors, represented by the Intelligence Star—wise individuals whose experience and knowledge can guide you towards personal success and growth.
With the BaZi Advisor, you can easily find the Noble Men and Academic Mentors in your contact list, understand what kind of help they can offer, and unlock your full potential. And right now, you can grab a Golden subscription for the price of a Silver one—but only for a limited time!
Remember, everything flows more smoothly when the Universe aligns in your favor. In Chinese culture, there’s a parable of the farmer who was able to harvest more than others, not because he worked harder, but because he learned to work with the flow of the river. When we align with the right energies and people, life flows more easily.
4. How Do You Know Which Colleagues to Connect With?

Imagine having insight into whether someone can bring positive energy into your life or if it’s best to keep your distance. The secret lies in their Destiny Chart, which is calculated based solely on their birth date.
You might be surprised to learn that psychological profiles built with the most advanced techniques often align closely with what a BaZi Destiny Chart reveals! These days, finding someone's birth date is as simple as checking their social media.

In ancient China, a young farmer sought to find the perfect companions to help him grow his crops. One day, he asked the village sage for advice. The sage handed him three seeds and said, "Plant these and water them carefully. The one that flourishes will show you the person to trust." The farmer followed the advice and soon realized which plant thrived the most—he then found the right friends to join his journey. Like the farmer, we too need to nourish the right relationships to find success.

6. How Can You Effectively Use Unfavorable Elements in Your Ba Zi Chart?
How can I use unfavorable elements effectively in my Ba Zi chart? In Ba Zi's analysis, each element, even those considered unfavorable, can have attributes that we can benefit from when used wisely. While unfavorable elements can present negative traits, we can minimize their impact through good self-control of our actions and manifestations, and practices and by balancing their power using the relationships between the five elements, focusing on the strengths they have.
However, achieving harmony requires attention to the quality of the element, which plays a crucial role in determining how much it can contribute positively or whether its influence may require careful management. In Ba Zi, an ideal Destiny Chart contains a harmonious balance of the five elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water – each with moderate strength and good quality, with two pillars in Yang and two in Yin. This balance reflects the purpose of earthly life: achieving harmony and alignment.
Since a perfectly balanced chart is impossible, we must work with the unique structure of each chart to find the right solutions to achieve balance.
Since the purpose of our earthly journey is to achieve harmony, an ideally balanced Destiny Chart should contain all five elements in equal proportions, with two pillars being Yang and two Yin. This, however, is extremely rare. Furthermore, each element has a specific strength determined by the season of birth and how much it is supported by other elements in the chart, as well as a particular quality. Ideally, no elements should be overly strong or too weak. Yet, since this perfect balance is naturally impossible, it’s considered that strong elements should be reduced toward balance, while weak ones should be strengthened.
How is this done? By looking at the relationships among the elements, specifically the three basic cycles: Production, Consumption, and Control. An element is strengthened by the one that generates it and by similar elements, while others weaken it. Following this necessity, it’s established that strong elements benefit from those that weaken them, and vice versa.
Initially, we learn that each element has both negative and positive attributes. When an element is favorable, it predominantly manifests positive qualities and only a few negative ones. Conversely, an unfavorable element tends to exhibit more negative traits, though its quality plays a significant role in this analysis. A degree of subjectivity also applies because, according to Yin and Yang principles, there is no absolute good or bad. Ultimately, through self-control, each of us should be able to regulate negative tendencies and prevent them from dominating our lives. We always have free will, and although moments of anger may incline us toward aggression, this doesn’t mean most people act in this way. When we choose to utilize traits of an unfavorable element, we should simply be mindful and consciously prevent negative attributes from surfacing through self-control.
To make this process easier, it is recommended first to bring elements toward equilibrium based on their inter-elemental relationships. The guiding principle is always balance and harmony.
So far, we’ve discussed only the primary, elementary stage of analyzing a Destiny Chart. In fact, the Destiny Chart analysis takes place on various levels, all based on the same relationships among elements. At first, a Star Analysis is performed. The five elements mentioned earlier are called Stars when viewed in relation to the Day Master—the element in the Celestial Stem (upper part) of the Day Pillar in the Destiny Chart. The element controlled by the Day Master (e.g., Fire if the Day Master is Water) is called the Wealth Star and provides insights into one’s relationship with wealth, ease of generating income, or potential challenges. The Resource Star, represented by the element that generates the Day Master, relates to physical and mental health and appreciation of life. For more details on interpreting each Star, please refer to our article What are the Five Stars in Ba Zi?
Now, all these Stars, like the elements, display both positive and negative traits. However, when the elements are unfavorable, absent, or excessive in the chart, we must take care to minimize their negative impacts on our lives, particularly in activities represented by them, which can often be performed successfully. Remember that it is essential to maintain balance among elements to minimize negative effects. For more on these effects and how to analyze them, see our article Ba Zi - Five Stars Analysis.
Derived from the Stars, each with its Yin and Yang polarity, are the Ten Gods, which allow for a more detailed analysis not only of their attributes but also of their associated meanings in terms of characteristics, people, and places. The best results are obtained when we use Gods whose elemental qualities are good, carefully diminishing the negative effects that accompany positive ones by reducing excessive power and correctly applying the principles of the five elements.
To quickly recall, during analysis, the characteristics and the people or places associated with each God, simply click on the name of any God in the Elements panel on the Profile Analysis page, and you will see them displayed.
✨ Remember this ancient Chinese parable:
A respected scholar went to visit a Zen master, eager to learn about life’s wisdom. The master invited him in and began pouring tea. The cup filled, then overflowed as the master continued pouring. Alarmed, the scholar cried out, “Stop! The cup is full; no more can be added!”
The master smiled and replied, “Like this cup, you are full of your own opinions and ideas. To achieve wisdom, you must first empty your cup.”
This parable reminds us that true balance and harmony require openness to new perspectives and a willingness to let go of old patterns. In Ba Zi and Feng Shui, the same is true: understanding and balancing the elements means staying adaptable, open, and mindful of the forces around and within us.
