Welcome to a journey of self-discovery and clarity with the wisdom of Yi Jing, the ancient art that reveals the universe's guidance through signs and synchronicities. Use this tool with respect, intention, and mindfulness to align your path with the natural flow of life’s events.
If you wait the right moment to act, it is already to late because is no longer an opportunity by knowledge; everybody knows. Speed is the key. Yi Jing = Need for Speed.
If Ba Zi is conventional, then Yi Jing is unconventional.
What is the Yi Jing (I Ching), and how does it work?
The Yi Jing (I Ching), also known as the Book of Changes, is an ancient Chinese divination text that embodies the idea of synchronicity in its core structure. The Yi Jing is used to interpret the flow of the universe and life’s events, helping people understand how different moments, despite appearing disconnected, are meaningfully related within a larger pattern of yin and yang energy flows.
In Eastern philosophy, the focus is on interconnectedness and dynamic balance rather than linear cause and effect. The Yi Jing helps people align with the natural rhythms of the universe, providing answers to personal dilemmas that appear synchronistically through the process of consultation.
Karl Gustav Jung was profoundly influenced by the Yi Jing, seeing it as a psychological tool that helps individuals interpret the synchronistic events of their lives, tapping into the collective unconscious. Read more about it in our article Yi Jing: A Bridge Between Science and Mysticism.
Can the Yi Jing predict the future?
Let’s get this out of the way from the start: the Yi Jing is not a fortune-telling tool. At least, not in the way you might think.
It doesn’t whisper “you will meet a tall stranger” or predict next Friday’s lottery numbers. That’s not its style. Yi Jing — or the Book of Changes — is much older, deeper, and frankly, wiser than any simple oracle that spits out ready-made answers. It doesn’t treat you like a passive passenger in life. It treats you like a co-creator of your destiny.
You see, when you ask the Yi Jing a question, what you receive is not a prophecy, but a snapshot of energy. It shows you the potential of the moment — the tendencies, the hidden currents, the likely consequences of your choices if you keep walking the path you’re on. But then — and this is the beautiful part — it hands the power back to you.
If you act one way, this may unfold.
If you shift your mindset, another path opens.
If you wait, rather than push forward, something else entirely may emerge.
That’s not a prediction. That’s dialogue.
The ancient Chinese masters didn’t see fate as a rigid script. They saw it as a river — flowing, changing, shaped by rocks and winds and rain. The Yi Jing is like a map of that river at the moment you consult it. But it’s up to you whether you build a bridge, jump in, or wait for calmer waters.
And here’s the most important thing: the Yi Jing won’t make your choices for you.
It won’t override your will. It won’t save you from your mistakes.
But it will show you what’s at stake — the seeds you’re planting, and the weather surrounding you.
So can the Yi Jing predict your future?
Not exactly.
But it can help you create it more consciously.
At BaZi Advisor, we use Yi Jing as part of a larger framework — one that includes your personal Ba Zi Destiny Chart. If you’re unsure of your direction in life, love, or work… if you’re at a crossroads and don’t know which path to take… this ancient wisdom can offer extraordinary clarity.
Your Destiny Chart reveals where your strengths lie, which seasons favor your growth, and what your life lessons might be. It’s your cosmic DNA — and Yi Jing? It’s the voice of the present moment, showing you how the energy of now interacts with you.
Some of the most visionary leaders in Asia trust these tools not out of superstition, but because they work. They’ve helped shape decisions in business, strategy, and even politics. Some of the world’s most successful economies, like Singapore and Hong Kong, consider Ba Zi a serious science used for personal and financial growth. Even in Malaysia, where different cultural perspectives exist, many top business leaders use these methods behind the scenes. If they’re willing to consult the classics to navigate a complex world… maybe it’s time to ask yourself: why wouldn’t I?
So, Can Yi Jing Really Help Me?
Yes — if you're ready to ask the right questions.
No — if you're looking for someone (or something) to decide for you.
Yi Jing is about clarity, not control. It helps you see which of your decisions are in harmony with the moment, and which might be forcing something that isn’t yet ripe.
And here’s a little secret: when used alongside your Ba Zi Destiny Chart, it becomes even more powerful. Ba Zi gives you the blueprint — the inner map of your nature, talents, and life cycles. Yi Jing reads the weather outside, the flow of time, the moment you're standing in right now. Together, they give you insight and foresight. They show you what kind of energy is present when you ask a question. And if you’re open, they show you how to dance with it.
Yi Jing - the DNA of Creation
Here’s something that really surprised me when I first learned it — and it still gives me chills.
The Yi Jing, or Book of Changes, is made up of 64 hexagrams. That may not be news to those familiar with Chinese metaphysics. But what’s truly fascinating is that modern biology also identifies 64 codons in the structure of human DNA.
Each DNA codon is a triplet — a sequence of three nucleotides — that carries the instructions your body needs to build proteins. These proteins shape everything from your physical appearance to the function of your nervous system. DNA tells your body when to start something, when to stop it, and how to keep everything running in between.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. The 64 hexagrams of the Yi Jing are also created from a code — six stacked lines, either Yin (broken) or Yang (solid). These six-line structures are built from combinations of eight basic trigrams, representing natural forces like Earth, Heaven, Water, Fire, Mountain, Lake, Wind, and Thunder.
In essence, Yi Jing is a symbolic language of change, just like DNA is a biological one. Each hexagram represents a specific configuration of energy, describing how situations evolve over time. Some hexagrams represent beginnings, others point to endings or transitions. Some advise taking action, while others suggest patience and reflection.
When two trigrams are combined, they form one of the 64 hexagrams. That’s the system of Yi Jing. But unlike DNA, which operates inside your cells, Yi Jing operates in the world of timing, choices, relationships, and transformation.
It’s tempting to wonder if this is more than a coincidence. Perhaps both systems — biological and metaphysical — are different expressions of the same truth. One speaks through molecules. The other is through symbols and synchronicity.
Either way, they both represent structured systems designed to understand and navigate the complexity of life.
In a way, it feels like the same thing, just told in a different language. One is biology. The other is destiny. And both are written in code.
How to Use the Yi Jing Tool provided by BaZi Advisor
- Before You Begin: Check Your Personal Horoscope
- Before initiating any divination or spiritual practice, it's essential to consider the time factor — the Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch of the day, along with the Officer and the Constellation of the Day. These elements shape the energetic quality of the moment and can significantly influence the clarity of your insights.
- Avoid performing divination or deep meditation during the three days leading up to the New Moon. This is a time when the qi (energy) is waning and depleted, traditionally seen as unsuitable for accessing higher guidance or initiating spiritual work.
- Approach with Sincerity
- Consult Yi Jing only when you truly need guidance.
- Ask questions that genuinely matter to you—questions that are essential for understanding the next steps in your journey.
- Spend a moment reflecting on the question you want to ask. Meditation or quiet contemplation can help you focus.
- Follow These Important Guidelines
- Ask only one question per day. This tool is not for entertainment; it’s a sacred space for meaningful inquiry.
- If you don’t understand the answer immediately, avoid asking another question. Instead, take your time to reflect deeply. Revisit the text carefully, ponder the advice, and search for signs in your life that may reveal further insights.
- Understand the Language of Signs
- The guidance from Yi Jing does not speak directly about human destiny. Between Heaven and Earth, what has been and what is to come first appear through signs. Trust the process and let the subtle messages unfold in your understanding.
How do I formulate a question for the Yi Jing?
If you’re consulting the I Ching for the first time, one of the most important things you can do is ask the right question. Unlike fortune-telling tools that hand out yes or no answers, the I Ching is more like a wise mentor — it helps you see the deeper forces at play, not just surface-level outcomes.
So, how do you ask a meaningful question?
Start by avoiding anything that sounds like: “Will I get the job?” or “Will my relationship work?” The I Ching isn’t a prediction machine — it’s a mirror that reflects back the energy of your situation and your role within it. A better way to approach these topics might be:
“What is the best way to approach this job opportunity?”
“What internal shift do I need to make to improve this relationship?”
“What should I be aware of before making this decision?”
The more you shift from “What will happen to me?” to “How should I respond?” the more insightful the answer becomes. The I Ching doesn’t want to trap you in fate — it wants to empower your choices.
Be clear, be open, and most of all, be honest with yourself. You’re not asking a machine. You’re starting a conversation with something bigger — a kind of ancient, structured wisdom that sees the flow of time from a different angle.
Is the Yi Jing suitable for all types of questions?
In theory, yes — you can ask the I Ching about anything. But not every question will give you a helpful answer.
If you’re asking out of boredom, curiosity, or just hoping to be reassured, the result might be confusing or vague. Why? Because the I Ching responds to sincerity and timing. If the question isn’t real or meaningful to you, the answer might not land.
Also, some moments aren’t ideal for consultation, such as the days right before the New Moon, when energy is traditionally considered low, or when your mind is overly scattered or emotional. (The BaZi Advisor app helps you track daily energies if you're unsure.)
The Yi Jing is particularly suited for:
- Life transitions
- Relationship or career dilemmas
- Internal conflicts
- Times when you feel stuck, uncertain, or in need of clarity
- Spiritual growth or self-understanding
On the other hand, avoid trivial questions or those where you've already made up your mind. This is not a tool for validation — it’s a tool for clarity and alignment.
If you're sincere, open-minded, and genuinely seeking insight, the I Ching will often meet you halfway. It won’t tell you what to do, but it will help you understand the pattern you're in, and what kind of change is possible — if you're willing to move with it.
How do I interpret the hexagram I receive?
So you've tossed the coins, the lines have appeared, and now a hexagram is staring back at you from the screen (or the page). What now?
The I Ching doesn’t shout answers at you. It whispers through metaphor — drawing on the traditions, poetry, and philosophy of ancient China. Its language may feel distant from modern life, full of symbolic imagery and subtle suggestions. That’s intentional. The I Ching doesn't just give you data — it gives you depth. And the best insights often come not from the first read, but from reflection.
At BaZi Advisor, we’ve worked hard to offer clear explanations alongside each original passage from the Book of Changes. But even so, no one can interpret the I Ching for you completely. That’s because your situation, your state of mind, and your level of awareness are part of the reading. What the I Ching gives you is a mirror — a symbolic one — and it’s up to you to recognize what it’s reflecting.
Two Possible Scenarios
1. Stable Hexagram:
If your hexagram contains only stable lines (either Yin or Yang), this suggests a situation that is not actively changing. What you see is what is — and the message is focused on describing your current condition. In this case, your reading will include:
- The name and meaning of the hexagram
- A description of the current situation
- Insights and guidance on how to approach it
It’s a cosmic snapshot — a still moment in the flow of time, offering clarity but not transition. Sometimes, that alone can be powerful.
2. Changing Hexagram:
If your hexagram includes changing lines — these are the so-called “Old Yin” or “Old Yang” — then things are in motion. These special lines signal Qi that has passed its peak and is now shifting toward its opposite. When this happens, the reading becomes a dynamic one.
In this case, the BaZi Advisor will show you:
- The initial hexagram — where you are now
- The changing lines — where transformation is already beginning
- The resulting hexagram — where things are heading if the current path continues
- And most importantly, the interpretation of the transformation itself
This is where the I Ching becomes truly magical. It doesn’t just show you a moment — it shows you how that moment evolves. It’s like watching destiny unfold in slow motion, with the option to redirect it through awareness and action.
A small but important detail: the lines of a hexagram are counted from the bottom up — Line 1 is at the base, Line 6 is at the top. If your result refers to a specific line, you’ll want to interpret it accordingly.
In the end, the hexagram isn’t meant to control your choices — it’s meant to illuminate them. The I Ching is less about predicting the future and more about preparing your consciousness for what might arise. When read with sincerity, its symbols become seeds that bloom into insight — not all at once, but gradually, as you let them unfold in your heart.
Take your time with the message. Revisit it in a day or two. Sometimes, the line that seemed strange will suddenly make perfect sense.
That’s how it works. Quietly. Patiently. Just like life.
The Divine never directly dictates the destiny of humankind.
Between Heaven and Earth,
What has been and what awaits you
First manifest as signs.
For those who understand this language, nothing remains hidden.
They grasp what has been, what will come, and their true Purpose.
By understanding their Purpose, they discern their path—
A journey that, wherever it ends,
Will lead them to inner peace.
This is the highest wisdom, and
This is the teaching of the Book of Transformations.
