We all desire a happy relationship when we decide to leave behind solitary life. In this article, we will explore a few more advanced methods to analyze a relationship through the lens of both partners’ desires and needs. However, it is crucial to be realistic and to understand from the very beginning what is possible and what is not, what expectations are realistic and which are not.
For those of you who haven’t yet, in the name of love, we warmly invite you to read our previous article: “Discover Your Love Story with the Wisdom of Ba Zi.”
Each of us has strengths and flaws, and in the beginning, under the influence of sexual attraction, the flaws are often overlooked. If the intimacy is amazing, we tend to ignore the things that bother us about the other person, and unfortunately, this is the first step towards future unhappiness. The most important thing in a long-term relationship is the ability to accept your partner’s flaws. Why? Because hoping that the other person will change is an illusion—it almost never happens. I say “almost” because change is possible, but only when the other person, through their own journey of self-awareness and acceptance, consciously decides to transform.
The truth is that the only changes we can truly make are within ourselves. And when it comes to yourself, you can do anything—as long as you have the will and determination. The most important thing? Learn to love yourself! Look in the mirror and love what you see because if you don’t love yourself, then who will?
"Be content with what you have, rejoice in how things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you." – Lao Tzu
On the other hand, we all have dreams and life goals, and by pursuing them, we inevitably evolve from who we were on our first date. Are we ready to accept our partner’s evolution? Trying to stop it will only create frustration and long-term unhappiness, ultimately leading to the breakdown of the relationship.
Some of us, in a moment of vulnerability caused by disappointment or a sense of unfulfillment, might be tempted to enter a relationship hoping for healing, expecting happiness to come from our partner. But this is not a winning strategy either. Having the strength to avoid such situations is crucial.
As for expectations, even if for long periods we feel perfectly in sync with our partner—"on the same wavelength"—we shouldn’t assume this will always be the case. Nor should we fear moments of dissonance. They are temporary and normal because each of us follows our own path, with ups and downs. After all, everything in the universe is vibration and oscillation—our relationships are no exception.
"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage." – Lao Tzu
From all of the above, we can conclude that by understanding both our own essential traits and needs, as well as those of our partner, we can better foresee the prospects of a future relationship. These insights can be discovered by analyzing two key elements: the Day Master and the Profile of a person.
I discussed the Day Master in my previous article, “Discover Your Love Story Through Ba Zi Wisdom”, and in the next introductory chapter, you’ll learn about Profiles.
Keeping in mind the old Chinese proverb, “In love, as in dreams, nothing is impossible”, let’s move on to the next chapter.
Essential Ba Zi Concepts for Advanced Relationship Analysis
To quickly identify the essential traits of a person, we first look at the Day Pillar in the Destiny Chart, specifically at the element in its Heavenly Stem, known as the Day Master. This element serves as the foundation of any future analysis. Why was this particular element chosen? Because in Ba Zi, the Day Pillar is considered the mirror of the self.
The second key element in our analysis is the person's Profile. Its characteristics are revealed through one of the Hidden Stems of the Month Pillar, usually the Primary one, though there are exceptions, when the Profile is given by one of the Secondary Stems of this Pillar. The Month Pillar is chosen because it contains information about a person's professional life and career activities that typically occupy around 70% of our active lifetime. Naturally, our profession leaves a significant mark on our personality, especially in how we present ourselves publicly. In contrast, the Day Master provides insight into our deeper, inner self. By combining these two sets of information, we can form an initial, fairly comprehensive picture of a person.
For a more in-depth look at the meaning of all the Pillars and a broader perspective on Ba Zi, we recommend reading the article “Long Story Short about Ba Zi.” You don’t need to worry about determining a person’s Profile manually, as the selection rules are quite complex. However, both the Profile and Day Master are among the first pieces of information provided when you input a person's birth date (and time, if known, though it is not mandatory) in the Profile Analysis page of the BaZi Advisor web application.
For illustration purposes, we will use the same Destiny Chart calculated for a virtual character, John Doe, which was also featured in our first article.

As you can see, John Doe’s Day Master is Yin Water, and his Profile is Indirect Wealth (IW). We will explore the meaning of these aspects once we understand how to interpret the Elements in terms of their attributes and characteristics, as well as the concepts of Stars and Deities in Ba Zi. It is crucial to grasp these fundamental concepts, as they form the foundation of all methods derived from Chinese Metaphysics—whether Ba Zi, Feng Shui, Ze Ri, Qi Men, Yi Jing, or Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Next, you will discover the fundamental principles and a brief overview of the attributes and characteristics associated with the Elements, Stars, and Gods, as well as what the 5 Stars and 10 Gods in the Destiny Chart represent. We will focus only on those relevant to John Doe’s chart. To support your learning, we have created the Wisdom Vault (Keynotes) page on BaZi Advisor, where you can easily access all this information whenever needed, whether it’s about Elements, their principles, Stars, or the Ten Deities.
Note! When talking about Stars and Deities, we do not refer to celestial bodies or mythological deities. These terms are simply used for convenience when discussing specific Qi energies in different contexts. Ultimately, everything revolves around energies, their interactions, and humanity's attempt to align with them harmoniously.
One last recommendation: even if you are a practitioner with some experience, it’s best to have someone else 'read' your own Destiny Chart. We are often influenced by preconceived notions, we want things to align with our own thoughts too much, and at times, we can be subjective. Moreover, seeing things through someone else’s eyes will offer a different perspective that, even if similar to yours, will still complete the bigger picture.
What the Destiny Chart Reveals About Love
When analyzing a Destiny Chart, it’s essential to have a clear focus on what you’re looking for. It’s like walking into a bookstore without a plan—you get overwhelmed by the sheer number of options, feel like you want to read everything, and either leave empty-handed or buy way too many books. However, when you know exactly what you’re interested in, finding the right book becomes much easier. The same logic applies when reading a Destiny Chart.
Right now, our focus is on love. So, we’ll direct our attention toward the elements that provide insights into relationships. Along the way, we’ll also share some useful tips to help you build an accurate picture.
In the "Brief Profile Info" section of the Profile Analysis page on BaZi Advisor, you’ll find all the insights derived from a complex analysis of the Destiny Chart, categorized into sections like Life Lessons, Tips & Tricks, Inner Self, and Deep Perspectives.
In this article and the ones to follow, we’ll explore different ways to analyze a Destiny Chart using the knowledge you’ve acquired so far. This will enable you to start seeing patterns on your own and understand relationship dynamics more clearly. By comparing your analysis with past relationships, you’ll gain insight into what went wrong and discover what you can do to enhance your current relationship.
It’s best to analyze as many people as possible—you’ll notice that, over time, everything starts to make more sense. Eventually, you may feel the urge to offer guidance to those around you. As you continue to practice, your curiosity will be rewarded with understanding and wisdom, paving the way for you to become a true Ba Zi practitioner.
BaZi Advisor includes a dedicated Practitioner’s Section that can be an invaluable resource, whether you want to:
- Use Ba Zi for analyzing individuals or relationships,
- Apply Feng Shui to harmonize your living or work environment,
- Utilize Ze Ri to select auspicious timing for key events,
- Consult the Yi Jing for guidance in making important decisions.
But let’s take things step by step. Suppose you’re just starting your journey into the mystical world of Chinese metaphysics and want to deepen your understanding. In that case, we recommend exploring our "BaZi Advisor - Ba Zi & Feng Shui Course".
For those using BaZi Advisor to put their knowledge into practice, we’ve prepared a series of Practical Guides designed to help you find the answers you seek and achieve the results you desire, whether it’s in Wealth & Career, Health, Relationships, or Learning & Personal Growth.
The 5 Elements: The Essence of Relationship Energies
Based on the characteristics described in the following sections, start by seeing if you recognize yourself in them. Then, take the next step and analyze the people close to you. What do you think? Are you beginning to understand how it works? With this knowledge, you will know what to do to improve an existing relationship, or, even before getting to know someone more closely, you will be able to assess whether their specific traits resonate with you or not.
Next, we will analyze the Day Master and the Main Profile of a person: the first represents their deep inner self, while the second reflects their behavior in society. Sometimes, the information revealed by the Day Master may contradict what the Profile suggests. Does that surprise you? We could have extracted only the common elements from the two and created a seemingly coherent characterization, but would that be fair? We are all full of contradictions—that is the very nature of being human. How many times have you had contradictory feelings about something or someone? That’s exactly the point—this is where these discrepancies come from, and nothing in life is ever truly simple. But in the end, that’s precisely what makes it beautiful.
The path to success also means knowing how to accept what cannot be changed without wasting your energy trying to fight it. At the same time, it means learning to appreciate what you have and focusing on what truly deserves your attention.
Day Master Analysis: The key to a relationship's dynamic
Based on the polar element that represents a person's Day Master (DM), we can gain an initial insight into their general behavior. When it comes to a relationship, we can better understand their needs and what they can offer in return. A summary description follows.
Yang Wood - DM
A stable and loyal person with great potential for a long-term relationship, who doesn’t easily get involved, but when they do, they build solidly and patiently. They offer calm, trust, and security, needing respect, listening, and emotional nourishment to flourish. Innovative, they support their partner when they feel it’s deserved, but they cannot tolerate their boundaries being crossed. In a relationship, they desire to be admired and to feel valued, and the lack of recognition can make them withdraw. When loved with patience, they become an exceptional partner.
Yin Wood - DM
A sophisticated soul who loves with elegance and intensity, offering attention and emotional intelligence. Seeking intellectual stimulation and constant admiration, they need vibrant connections and mutual respect. They are volatile and often make compromises for peace, but they get bored easily and require constant motivation. When they love without limitations, they offer sophisticated and surprising love, but they need light and validation to stay grounded and authentic in the relationship.
Yang Fire - DM
A person who experiences love with stability and constant warmth, finding balance in routine and small gestures. They offer loyalty and support but are sensitive and influenced by emotions. They need predictability and stability in a relationship, without chaos or unnecessary risks. When they feel loved, they become a warm leader and a source of warmth for those around them. Their love is constant and dignified, but it can be affected by the shadows of the past.
Yin Fire - DM
A charismatic speaker and a refined soul with intense sensitivity. In love, they seek constant validation and a stable partner to help them stay grounded. Capable of deep love and sacrifice, they easily self-sabotage and need a partner who understands them beyond words. In a true relationship, they can be a devoted and loyal companion, but they must be loved without losing themselves.
Yang Earth - DM
A quiet soul, profoundly loyal, preferring peace and stable relationships. They don’t seek applause and don’t display their love on social media, but they are constant and confident. In love, they need time to open up, but once they do, they become protective and capable of sacrifice. They may seem misunderstood or underestimated, but in relationships, they need trust and a deep connection. They are a partner who doesn’t make grand promises but stays beside you during difficult times, offering sincere and lasting love.
Yin Earth - DM
A gentle, patient person full of kindness, but experiences love as a balance between the need for control and the desire for closeness. Though sharp and creative, with deep sensitivity, they can be possessive and hard to please, constantly needing validation and a sense of indispensability in the relationship. Seeking safety and stability, they become a loyal and protective partner when they feel appreciated and recognized by the other.
Yang Metal - DM
Strong, loyal, and determined, this person experiences love as a battle between honor and the fear of failure. Impulsive yet organized, they place great value on clarity and respect in relationships and cannot tolerate betrayal or uncertainty. Seeking a partner who will support them in their efforts, they are ready to fight for love with the same intensity with which they build their life, being devoted and protective when they feel loyalty from the other.
Yin Metal - DM
This person seeks recognition and respect, desiring to be seen and appreciated for who they are. Loyal and dedicated, they can become authoritarian and manipulative if they do not feel validated. In relationships, they prefer partners who offer constant appreciation and who understand their need for comfort and luxury. When they feel supported and respected, they become a loyal, warm, and creative partner, capable of deep and devoted love.
Yang Water - DM
Adaptable, energetic, and with an adventurous spirit, this person seeks a partner who will support them in achieving their big ambitions. A natural-born entrepreneur, but in love, they need a dynamic partner who can keep up with their pace. With a dual personality—social yet introverted—they seek deep and stable relationships based on mutual support and trust. When their partner understands them, they become loyal and dedicated to growing together.
Yin Water - DM
This person is deeply creative and philosophical, with a changeable and capricious nature. In relationships, they need a flexible partner who understands their inner complexity and accepts them for who they are. Always seeking new experiences and learning, they offer passionate and loyal love, but they are often impulsive and difficult to understand. When they feel connection and respect, they become a dedicated partner, but they require a lot of patience and understanding.
Let's further analyze the same Destiny Chart of a virtual John Doe, used as an example in the first article.

With Yin Water as the Day Master element, we can say the following about John:
A Yin Metal Day Master is deeply creative, philosophical, and exudes elegance and charisma. They need a flexible partner who understands their complexity and accepts them fully. Their sharp intellect and love for the spotlight can create emotional distance, and trust must be earned. They are fierce competitors who value respect and admiration, and they thrive when their uniqueness is recognized.
Always seeking new experiences, they offer passionate and loyal love but can be impulsive and stubborn. They may test partners by picking fights to gauge reactions. At their best, they are deeply invested and loyal, offering both passion and refinement to those they cherish, though they require patience and understanding.
The 10 Gods: Understanding Profile Archetypes and Their Influence on Love
As we’ve seen above, each person is assigned a Main Profile based on their Destiny Chart analysis. There are a total of 10 possible profiles, and in the following section, we’ll briefly explore what each one reveals about a person’s potential in love.
RW (Rob Wealth)
Charming, sociable, and magnetic, RW types thrive on attention and admiration. They love excitement and spontaneous connection but may struggle with balancing their public image and private emotions in relationships.
F (Friend)
Warm, loyal, and affectionate, F types seek deep emotional bonds. They give their all in love but may become overly dependent, needing frequent reassurance and emotional closeness.
IR (Indirect Resource)
Imaginative and introspective, IR types value freedom and deep intellectual connection. They can be mysterious and emotionally distant, needing space to feel secure in love.
DR (Direct Resource)
Sensitive, kind, and emotionally deep, DR types are nurturing partners. They idealize love and may get easily hurt when reality falls short, but they offer true devotion and understanding.
IW (Indirect Wealth)
Confident, driven, and independent, IW types seek strong, capable partners. They can be controlling or distant if they feel emotionally vulnerable but are passionate when secure.
DW (Direct Wealth)
Reliable and responsible, DW types take relationships seriously. They value structure, loyalty, and mutual effort, though their rigidity can sometimes make emotional flexibility difficult.
7K (Seven Killings)
Bold, protective, and intense, 7K types crave loyalty and emotional depth. Their passion is magnetic, but their trust issues and unpredictable nature can challenge stability.
DO (Direct Officer)
Polite, loyal, and harmony-seeking, DO types are devoted and dependable. They avoid conflict and can lose themselves in a relationship if they don’t maintain clear personal boundaries.
HO (Hurting Officer)
Expressive, stylish, and ambitious, HO types love attention and excitement. They crave stimulation but may fear intimacy, creating emotional highs and lows in relationships.
EG (Eating God)
Creative, curious, and independent, EG types love intellectual and emotional freedom. They bring joy and depth to relationships but can become impatient or withdrawn if they feel restricted.
Returning to the previous example, John has the Indirect Resource (IR) Profile. Based on this, we can say the following about him:
Based on their IW Profile, this person exudes confidence, independence, and a natural inclination to take charge. They have little patience for hesitation or passivity, preferring action over contemplation. Practical and solution-oriented, they are drawn to people who match their strength and determination, as emotional dependency or insecurity tends to push them away. While they can be affectionate and protective in relationships, their assertiveness may come across as controlling or confrontational. They value their own worth highly, and if they perceive their partner as lacking ambition or strength, they may struggle with loyalty. At times, their fear of vulnerability leads them to put up walls, avoiding deep emotional exchanges in favor of maintaining control. However, when they feel secure and respected, they can be deeply devoted and passionate partners.
It’s important to know that among these 10 Main Profiles, there are 100 possible combinations. As you might expect, some are highly compatible, while others are not. If you’re curious to find out whether you’re a match with someone, visit the Compatibility page on BaZi Advisor. There, profile compatibility is just one of the many criteria used to assess the true potential of a relationship.
