What is Ba Zi? - Ba Zi is just a tool
Ancient Chinese metaphysics says that our lives are influenced to the same extent (~33%) by three factors: Heavenly, Earth, and Human, also regarded as Heaven Luck, Earth Luck, and Man Luck. They form the Cosmic trinity.

Getting started with the diagnosis

The journey into the universe of Ba Zi starts with the computation of the Destiny Chart which is composed of Four Pillars, each one of them being computed from the Year, Month, Day, and Hour of birth based only on the Principle of Cyclicity. Destiny is not influenced by the positions of the planets but by the prevalent Qi at the time of birth (first breath of the creation) as a result of the movement and combination of the three existent types of Qi: Heavenly, Earthly, and Human.
There are four components in this date: the year, the month, the day, and the hour. The Qi associated with each component has an equal weight, contributing 25% at the prevalent Qi, and it has a cyclic evolution with a period of 60.
According to the legend the Cycle of 60 has been used since the 27th century BC to divine the nature of events. It is based on the previously described 12 animals and 10 polar elements cycles which combine themselves like a system of two connected gear wheels, one with 12 and the other with 10 teeth. Two teeth that are initially in contact, after 5 complete rotations of the first wheel and 6 complete rotations of the second wheel will reach again the initial position. This defines the period of 60 of this cycle.
Finaly, 60 x 60 x 60 x 60 = 12,960,000 possibilities.
The Hour of birth is very important for the Destiny Chart but NOT mandatory. If it is unknown, only the three main pillars: Day, Month and Year will be computed and we'll reveal only 75% of the information.
What is the meaning of the Four Pillars of Destiny?
Both the year of birth, as well as the month, day, and time of birth are equally important. The Qi energy of each of them will influence different aspects of the person's life.
- The year brings information related to the person's relationship with the general geopolitical context and society. It provides a more general overview without going into details.
