- Quick Horoscope Guide: Spot Opportunities, Sidestep Challenges

by Master Wey, Ba Zi guide

Throughout our lives, we are constantly surrounded by energies, or Qi bodies, which are often referred to as Stars in Chinese Metaphysics for convenience. The daily fluctuations of these Qi energies are typically known as the Horoscope.

Here you can get your Personal Daily Horoscope for free.

Each Star has its own attributes—good or bad—that relate to specific aspects of our lives and personalities. Some Stars affect everyone similarly, while others interact differently with each of us, depending on our individual energies as revealed in the Destiny Chart. The Personal Stars that have the most impact on us fall into two main categories: Noble Men and Breakers.

Personal Stars are always more significant than general ones because they affect or support only you, regardless of the effects of the general stars. Sometimes, your personal beneficial Stars can create unexpected opportunities even on days with predominantly negative energies for everyone else.

To succeed in life, the most important thing is to seize opportunities when they arise, whether or not you feel ready to accept them and embark on a new path. You must have the courage to take action, and along the way, you'll certainly find solutions for any problems or obstacles that arise. However, if you wait for a moment that feels perfect to you, or until you're "prepared" as per your plan, other opportunities might not come, making the road to success and prosperity much slower, at best. Remember, the world doesn't just belong to the young but to those who dare to reach out and take it. You've likely met people who seemed less prepared than you but managed to build successful businesses from scratch. That's because when an opportunity arose, they didn't hesitate to grab it.

Understanding the effects of Stars that manifest on certain days, particularly your personal Stars, will help you be in the right place at the right time. Since Stars change according to specific cycles, long or short, it is possible to calculate which combinations will be present on a given date. By analyzing the influences on a particular day, we can determine what activities are favorable and what should be avoided.

It is recommended to consult your personal Horoscope daily to know what actions are advisable to maximize your chances of success and, more importantly, what to avoid to prevent negative outcomes or at least minimize their impact.

Of course, our personal energy and mental determination can often overcome the effects of these Stars, but this isn't always the case.

As a complement to this explanatory article, we recommend reading our article Unlock Horoscope Insights with BaZi Advisor, where we provide practical examples, with relevant screenshots, covering everything you need to know about the Horoscope as presented by our BaZi Advisor app

Can You Trust a Horoscope?

How can anyone trust a Horoscope that claims to apply the same advice to everyone or a large group of people, such as those belonging to the same zodiac sign? After all, there are roughly 700 million people identified with the same zodiac sign. Yes, you're right to be skeptical in these cases. But let me explain how personal Horoscopes work.

Every day, our lives are influenced to varying degrees by the Qi energies that surround us, which appear and disappear cyclically. Some of these energies affect everyone, as mentioned earlier, and these are what public horoscopes typically discuss. However, all these energies interact with our unique energy patterns, defined by the energies present at birth. The effects of these interactions are what we feel most strongly, and they differ for each of us, since in Chinese Metaphysics, the same energetic pattern of a person, called the Destiny Chart, is shared by only one in 12 million people. How is this possible? Because the Destiny Chart is calculated based on the Year, Month, Day, and Hour of Birth, with each of these alternating through a cycle of 60 (the 12 zodiac animals multiplied by the 5 elements = 60 combinations). This is why it's important to consult your personal Horoscope, where all aspects of the interactions you may experience each day are analyzed, far more significantly than the general energies affecting everyone.

8 Daily Pillars on the Horoscope page

In the image above, the Horoscope is displayed as it appears in BaZi Advisor. In addition to the Stars shown at the bottom of this panel, their capabilities are revealed when you click on each of them. At the top of each day, the rating is displayed under a color bar, which is adjusted to reflect the rating obtained by averaging the effects of all the Stars present on that day.

In the following sections, we will discuss in more detail what these energies are and how they manifest.

What constitutes the Qi energy of a day?

The daily body of Qi is composed of different types of energies, auspicious or bad, brought by different stars, either General Stars manifesting their effects for everybody, or Personal Stars affecting only your life. On top of that, there are also the effects of the interactions between the personal Destiny Chart and the energy of the current Day. Below, we will outline these stars along with their attributes and effects. By identifying them in the Pillar of a day, we can align our actions and expectations, knowing when it is time to take action and when it is better to be patient.

Don't worry— on the Horoscope Page of BaZi Advisor, right after the presentation of the 8-12 Pillars (depending on the device used) with information for advanced users, there will be a description of all the Stars present on the selected day and their effects, both positive and negative. The results and effects of interactions with your personal Destiny Chart are displayed in a special panel, including interactions with the current Day, Month, Year, and Decade. In Ba Zi, the Decade Pillar is known as the Pillar of Luck, and its energies play a significant role in our lives because they influence us for the longest period.

General Stars

  • Year and Month Breakers - negative stars - days in clash with the Year or Month Pillar, avoid starting any kind of activities on this day, especially short-term activities for Month Breaker and long-term activities for Year Breaker
  • Three Kilings Days: Robbery Sha - negative stars - indicates a high probability of being robbed or losing things, Calamity Sha - is associated with harm, injuries, and illness, and Annual Sha - is associated with procrastination, delay, and setbacks
  • Ten Ferocious and Big Disaster Days - negative stars - In the 60 Jia Zi Pillars, there are ten days where Prosperous Qi, often associated with wealth in modern terms, is missing or absent, so there are bad days for any activity involving business or wealth generation
  • Four Separating and Extinct Days - negative stars - days with weak and totally unusable energies. They usually mark the transition between the Qi and elemental cycles of a season, which is why the Qi on these days is considered stagnant and lifeless.
  • Grand Duke - dangerous star - The Grand Duke Jupiter represents the body of Qi, the governing energy force of the year. Like the lava of a volcano, it is the most powerful energy, difficult to control, and preferably avoided, so be careful with the Grand Duke.
  • 28 Constellations - The 28 Constellations Method operates on the idea that each day is associated with a specific constellation of stars, each with its unique energy. These constellations have distinct attributes, and this method is typically used to provide a more detailed description of a particular day. They are Horn, Neck, Foundation, House, Heart, Tail, Basket, Dipper, Ox, Weaving Maiden, Void, Danger, Room, Wall, Astride, Mound, Stomach, Pleiades, Net, Beak, Orion, Well, Ghost,  Willow, Star, Bow, Wing, and Carriage.
  • 12 Officers - This method is crucial for distinguishing generally usable or unusable dates from truly favorable ones. The names of the 12 Day Officers are derived from the twelve specific types of energy or Qi, that influence each day: Establish, Remove, Full, Balance, Stable, Initiate, Destruction, Danger, Success, Receive, Open, and Close.

Interactions Between Destiny Chart and the Energy of the Day

When discussing interactions between Pillars, it's important to differentiate between the interactions of the Earthly Branches (animals) and the Heavenly Stems (polar elements). Among the Earthly Branches, there are three primary types of interactions: Combinations, Clashes, and Harms. While the effects of combinations can be either positive or negative, clashes typically have negative consequences.

In Ba Zi theory, a Clash represents a conflicting or opposing relationship between the Branches, based on the elements or their contrasting attributes. Knowing when a Clash will occur is just as crucial as understanding what it might bring. A Clash is often uncomfortable and unpleasant, but that doesn't always mean it's bad. For instance, a Clash that eliminates an unfavorable element in a chart is actually beneficial. A Clash that pushes someone out of their comfort zone or helps them grow as a person can also have positive outcomes. Sometimes a Clash brings undesirable results, but it can also be a challenge or lesson with a silver lining, leading to personal growth.

Combinations, on the other hand, indicate a connection or relationship between two subjects, issues, or people in your life. It's essential to evaluate what aspects are involved in a combination before deciding if it’s something beneficial.

Harms, which cause deep emotional and psychological pain, are usually unexpected and triggered by others, often feeling like a karmic blow.

We discuss these topics in more detail in the article Heavenly Stems & Earthly Branches Interactions in Ba Zi, but it's important to note that in daily horoscope analysis, all the effects of interactions between the Destiny Chart and the current Day's, Month's, and Year's Pillars are considered.

If you check your personal Horoscope almost daily, you will start to notice the effects of certain Stars yourself. I've observed that some Stars feel more pronounced for each of us than others. To understand them better, we always begin by looking at the previous day. This approach helps you connect the Stars and their interactions with the events that have recently occurred and are still fresh in your mind.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Horoscope

It is convenient when it is about an important activity in our life to determine in advance what are the most auspicious days in order to take benefits from your actions lasting a long time. Of course, you can check each day on your own and look at the effects of all the Stars acting and the present interaction to make your own decision, especially if you are an experimented user.

In general, selecting a date for a specific event involves several steps. First, you eliminate all days where one or more negative Stars—whether general or personal—are present. After removing these days, you then look for days where the Stars represented by the 12 Officers and/or the 28 Constellations align well with the type of event you are planning and specifically avoid those that are unfavorable.

For instance, when choosing a favorable day for signing a contract, it is preferable to find a day that creates a harmonious combination with the Destiny Charts of both parties involved. Details about these combinations and all possible interactions can be found in the article Heavenly Stems & Earthly Branches Interactions in Ba Zi.

Although it may seem complicated at first glance, we assure you that no special skills are required. By following these instructions, you will succeed. You will learn a lot through this process, and by the end of the day, you'll be proud of your new achievements. Applying these practices in your daily life will significantly improve your quality of life over time. This is proven by experience: the better your understanding, the more favorable the results.

However, for very busy people, selecting a good date for an event can take more time than they can afford, especially if they are just beginning their journey into Ba Zi. That's why we decided it would be convenient for everyone to have a tool that allows the direct selection of a specific type of activity or event you are interested in, with BaZi Advisor providing a list of favorable dates, sorted by different levels of favorability. To be honest, it's not easy to find a perfect date without bad Stars or negative interactions, while also ensuring the presence of auspicious Stars for your chosen activity. Sometimes, due to certain constraints, you may have to settle for at least a day that is not unfavorable if an excellent one is not available. This tool, called Planning Events, is available to all users with at least a Silver subscription.

We will soon publish an article dedicated to Date Selection, where we will explain what is generally considered important for certain events to be successful in terms of favorable Stars and combinations. In that article, we will also detail the attributes of each Star from both the 12 Officers and the 28 Constellations.

How the Environment Impacts Our Daily Horoscope

Another aspect that significantly influences our lives is the impact of the surrounding environment. This is analyzed in Feng Shui, which also includes a temporal component. While the primary Qi energies of the house where we live or the office where we work are determined by the year of construction and their geographical positioning, giving them a quasi-permanent character, there are also Annual, Monthly, and Daily Stars that cyclically visit each sector of the building, manifesting their positive and negative energies, particularly in those sectors.

In Feng Shui, for the effects of certain stars to be felt, it requires spending effective time in those sectors, which is why the influence of the Daily Star can often be ignored. However, the Monthly and Annual Stars deserve our full attention. For example, the Annual Star 6, also known as the Heavenly Doctor, aids in quick recovery and healing when we spend significant time in the sector where it is located in the current year. You can easily determine the placement of these stars in your home or office using the Feng Shui module of BaZi Advisor and following the steps described in the practical guide Quickly Calculate Your Home's Feng Shui.

Star 2 exerts its strongest effects when it appears as the Monthly Star in a particular sector and is known as the Star of Illness, especially when activated by external or internal Sha Qi. The Annual Star 5 also demands our attention. It is the most powerful star, associated with the Earth element, but should be viewed more as the energy of volcanic lava—a combination of Earth and Fire. Generally, especially for beginners, it is difficult and unwise to deal with such energies, so it is recommended not to activate it, either through Sha Qi or through intense activity in the sector where it is located. We've covered all these aspects, as well as how to choose the right time to start or renovate a home or apply Feng Shui remedies, in detail in the article Feng Shui Harmony: Perfect Timing for Renovations & Remedies.

The positions of the Annual and Monthly Stars are displayed on the building's Bagua. By clicking on the sector of interest, you can view in the corresponding analysis panel the effects of these stars' presence in that sector, including their interaction with the existing Water and Mountain Stars. When applicable, possible remedies to neutralize any negative effects are provided to users with a subscription.

Stay tuned for our upcoming article, where we’ll dive into the techniques of date selection for various important activities. Don’t miss out on learning how to align your plans with the most auspicious times!
