Kua Number, Palaces, and Directions
In Feng Shui, the Kua number (also translated as Gua sometimes) is calculated differently based on the year of birth for men and women.
- For men, the last two digits of the birth year are added together and then reduced to a single digit, which is subtracted from either 10 for those born before 2000 or from 9 for those born after 2000.
- For women, the last two digits of the birth year are added together, reduced to a single digit, and then either 5 is added for those born before 2000 or 6 for those born after 2000.
- If the resulting number obtained by adding the last two digits of the birth year and reducing it to a single digit is 5, it is considered as 2 for men and 8 for women.
On the Feng Shui page, after entering a person's date of birth, the first displayed pieces of information are the Kua Number and Best Colors.
Based on a person's Kua number, also referred to as the Life Star, the Connective Kua number, Partner Palace, Opportunity Palace, Relationship Palace, and Enemy Palace are calculated. The numbers corresponding to these Palaces are found as Central Stars in the nine Palaces of the Bagua of the house or office.

For John Doe's prospective house, with the Facing direction at 174 South and the year of construction 2017, we have the following palaces:
Knowing that John Doe has the Kua Number 7 (Life Star), we can say the following:
Life Palace - 7 - West;
Connective Palace - 3 - East;
Partner Palace - 2 - SouthWest;
Opportunity Palace - 3 - East;
Relations Palace - 2 - SouthWest, and
Enemies Palace - 8 - NorthEast
What you need to know about Palaces associated with Kua Numbers
In someone's house, the Kua Number (Life Star) indicates their capacity for complete success, ensuring they are not absent and not exposed to Sha Qi. If it's missing, the person doesn't feel comfortable at home.
- If a person's Kua Number is missing in the workplace, they feel like leaving (they're not there).
- If Sha Qi is present in the person's sector (Kua Number) and the bedroom has a sloped ceiling, there's a lot of bad luck throughout life (they don't die, but it's not good at all).
- Ideally, in someone's house, the entrance door, bedroom, and kitchen should be in their sector. If they're in the WC, storage room, bathroom, or garage, the Qi is wasted (they don't express themselves fully, and it doesn't reach where it should). If it's in the storage room or bathroom, the person only manifests a maximum of 30% of it.
- Kua 1 is the primary wealth star, weaker than 9.
- During renovations, you can see which person is affected (based on their Kua number).
- Kua = 6 – considered the biggest gossips, they seek short relationships – shy in communication, it constitutes 33.3% of destiny; valid for both men and women.
- Business dealings shouldn't be conducted with people whose Kua Number is missing from the house of the one seeking the business. The same applies to a company.
- If a person's Kua Number is missing from the house, it's difficult to understand them (they're not in the person's house, not connected to that person.
- A person gets along best with the Connective Kua = 10 – Personal Kua Number; good relationships of any kind can be formed with people with Connective Kua. Without Connective Kua in the house, the person doesn't have good relationships. Without Connective Kua in the house, relationships, including marriage (90% couple relationships, 10% other relationships), don't occur.
- Star 10 takes care of everything, ensuring balance; everything originates from there, appearing first spatially, temporally, in humans, destiny, etc.
- Kua Partner = 9 – Personal Kua (this is how it's calculated); if the Personal Kua Number = 9, then the Partner Kua is 1.
- If a person's Kua Number is missing from the house, it's called Out of Kua, and that person cheats or leaves.
- The Life Palace = Personal Kua Number, and if it's the WC, life is full of mess, if the Life Palace is stairs, it means oppressed or super stressed by the partner, or if the Life Palace is the kitchen the person is nervous, quick to anger.
- The Opportunity Palace = the opposite palace of the Life Palace. It shows the ability to see the positive side and opportunities. With Sha Qi, it's not good.
- The Partnership Palace = the corresponding palace to the pair of the life star in He Tu (for me 4); those with Life Star 5 have two partnership palaces, 8 and 2 (LS=1 – PP= 6; LS=2 – PP= 7; LS=3 – PP=8 ; LS=4 – PP= 9; LS=5 – PP= 8 and PP= 8).
- The Enemies and Competitors Palace = the perfect opposite palace (passing through the center) of the Partnership Palace; if it's missing from the house space, the person has no enemies but is isolated. If one sleeps in this sector, the person is surrounded by enemies. It's preferable not to be in good areas of the house. Here, it's good to have Sha Qi (pillars, cranes, etc.). When there are enemies, Sha Qi (a lamp like a skeletal) is placed in this palace; (PP=1 – PD= 9; PP =2 – PD= 8; PP =3 – PD=7 ; PP =4 – PD= 9; LS =5 – PD= 3 and PD= 7).
- Those with Life Star 3, 5, 7 and have one of the stars 2, 3, 5, 7 in the Life Palace at some point, become good. If it's the star of the year, that year is good for the person; if they appear in the rest of that palace, they are good for the person.
- If the Life Star is in the Enemies Palace, life is surrounded by enemies.
- If the Life Star is in the Partnership Palace, romantic life is complicated, with patterns, a tendency for control, and selfishness (they identify with the partner).
- If the Life Star is in the Opportunity Palace, they can do something.
